Mercedes Sprinter, VW Crafter, MAN TGE – the basic vehicles on which VANME builds its campervans have a solid, functional cockpit ex works. This is perfectly adequate for everyday use. But a fully equipped VANME camper is no ordinary vehicle: behind the cockpit is an interior with handcrafted furniture, premium materials and sophisticated technology.

If the living area plays at this level, there is a noticeable break as soon as you sit down in the driver’s seat and hold a standard steering wheel in your hands. This is exactly where the cockpit refinement by PS Sattlerei comes in: it seamlessly connects the driver’s area with the overall concept of the camper – and turns an already outstanding motorhome into a coherent overall work down to the last detail.

Who is behind it

PS Sattlerei is based at Marie-Curie-Straße 12 in Bergkamen, in the Ruhr area near Dortmund. Managing Director Dennis Halverscheid has built the company into one of the most sought-after vehicle interior refinement businesses in Germany. The team consists of experienced saddlers who have learned their trade from scratch and are passionate about every detail.

This involves much more than just reupholstering seats. The company specializes in the complete customization of vehicle interiors – from custom carbon steering wheels and complete interior refinements with leather, Alcantara and real wood to handmade floor mats and exclusive travel bags. Each project is planned individually, designed in close consultation with the customer and implemented entirely by hand at the Bergkamen site.

PS Sattlerei has made a name for itself across all brands with projects for Mercedes AMG, BMW M, Audi RS, Porsche, Volkswagen and many other manufacturers. The company is particularly well-known for its custom carbon steering wheels with individual shape modeling – flattening, recessed grips, thumb rests and ergonomic adjustments that turn a standard steering wheel into a unique piece with a good grip. Steering wheel refinement and custom carbon steering wheels

Leather, Alcantara and individual quilting

The steering wheel is the component in the cockpit that you constantly hold in your hands. In the PS Sattlerei, standard steering wheels are remodeled and refined with materials that offer a completely different level of grip, feel and look to the factory. The finest nappa leather – including qualities from the Bentley portfolio -, original Alcantara in numerous colors and genuine carbon fiber fabric in various structures and designs are available: Classic Carbon, Forged Carbon, matt or glossy, in black or colored.

The shape modeling includes flattening at the top and bottom, grip recesses, thumb rests, grip ribs and an ergonomic redesign of the steering wheel rim. The original metal core remains untouched – instead, a specially developed plastic is applied to the original shape, modeled and hardened. The airbag, shift paddles, multifunction buttons and steering wheel heating remain fully intact. Registration with the TÜV is not required.

Individual decorative stitching, painted 12 o’clock markings, personalized lettering and logos make each PS Sattlerei steering wheel a truly unique piece.

Leather, Alcantara and individual quilting

Vehicle seats are completely reupholstered in the PS Sattlerei – in materials and with processing qualities that go far beyond what even premium manufacturers offer ex works. Fine nappa leather, perforated leather, Alcantara or combinations of these are put together according to the customer’s wishes. Quilting – whether diamond quilting, hexagon pattern, honeycomb quilting or free patterns – is produced by hand and set with millimeter precision.

Headrests and seat backrests can also be customized with individual logos, embroidery or embossing.

Dashboard, door panels and center console

A complete cockpit refinement goes far beyond the steering wheel and seats. Dashboards are covered with leather or Alcantara, door panels are redesigned and the center console is included in the overall concept. Roof panels, A and B pillars and smaller interior parts such as gearshift gaiters or sun visors can also be upgraded.

Carbon finishes for trims, panels and decorative parts are also part of the repertoire – true-to-original applications that are seamlessly integrated into the existing interior. There is a choice of different types of carbon: classic carbon, forged carbon and colored carbon, each in a matt or gloss finish.

Handmade floor mats and custom travel bags

To complete the interior design, the PS Sattlerei also produces floor mats by hand – made from exclusive car leatherette or genuine leather, with diamond quilting and a special foam that ensures a pleasant feel. Colors and stitching are selected to match the rest of the interior. The team also produces individual travel bags from the same materials – personalized with emblems, initials or signatures.

How VANME integrates the PS Sattlerei

At VANME, cockpit refinement by PS Sattlerei is not an afterthought – it is part of the overall planning of every camper project. The areas of the cockpit to be finished, the materials to be used and how the color scheme and choice of materials for the cockpit are to be combined with the living area are already determined during the design process.

In practice, this means that if the living area of a VANME camper has a certain color concept – such as warm earth tones, dark wood and cognac-colored accents – then the cockpit refinement of the PS Sattlerei picks up on this concept. The decorative stitching, leather colors and choice of materials are coordinated to create a consistent sense of space from the driver’s seat to the rear kitchen.

Coordination between VANME and PS Sattlerei is direct: VANME removes all the parts to be finished, sends them to Bergkamen by freight forwarder and reassembles them in the vehicle after finishing. The design is coordinated in advance with Dennis Halverscheid and his team. The entire process is invisible to the customer – logistics and coordination are part of VANME’s project management.

In the La Onda, PS Sattlerei has refined the entire cockpit – including the steering wheel, driver and front passenger seats, dashboard and door panels. Basically yes – the PS Sattlerei offers the refinement of individual components as well as complete interior projects. In VANME projects, however, the entire cockpit is usually reworked: The steering wheel, seats, dashboard and trim are planned as a complete package to create a consistent material concept. However, if you would like to have specific individual elements upgraded, this can be discussed during a personal consultation.

The duration depends on the scope of the project. A steering wheel refinement usually takes a few days to about a week. A complete cockpit refinement with seats, dashboard and trim can take several weeks. Each job is planned individually and a realistic time estimate is given in advance.

Yes, care is taken during all work to ensure that all original functions are retained – airbag, steering wheel heating, seat heating, seat ventilation, multifunction buttons, shift paddles and electric seat adjusters function as before after refinement. Registration with the TÜV is not required for steering wheel refinement.

Yes, refinement is possible for new VANME vehicles as well as for existing campervans. Whether Sprinter, Crafter, TGE or VW T6 – VANME removes the cockpit parts, sends them by freight forwarder to the PS Sattlerei and professionally reassembles them in the vehicle after the refinement.
